Dr Austin Warters is currently a researcher embedded within the Health Service Executive (HSE) which is the national organisation responsible for the delivery of health and social care across Ireland. He is specifically linked to the North Eastern Region of the HSE and previously had an operational role for older person’s services.
He has a particular interest in home care/home support/domiciliary care and has coordinated a number of research projects in this area. He holds an adjunct academic position in Dublin City University and is a co-director of a research collaboration between the university and the HSE region of Dublin North City and County Community Healthcare Organisation.
In collaboration with colleagues in Primary Care he established the first reablement service in Ireland in 2013.
Reablement continues to emerge as a programme of care in other parts of Ireland, though there is currently no national plan to establish a national approach.
